Arrived 19:50 local - have o be up at 6:00 to see what gives
tomorrow and how low is 'overcast' in Narsarsuaq - if its too low then we are
here for a few days and the wind is beginning to howl - must be a wild place in
winter
Stayed at the Hotel North - the wind rattle dthrough the building and I
was sure Charlie Delta might have taken off on her own
We ate at the MAriners Galley - next door - perfectly good food - actually had
cod and chips - difficult to appreciate anything when you breeze in for less than
9 hours overnight.

6 Sep Thurs mad eit to Goose Bay. Departed KMGY at 0950 - nearly
4hr 20 mins to Waterville in Maine where there was an FBO which would accept my
fuel card. Then a quick 20 minute hop to Bangor to clear customs and
immigration. I thought that was going to be a huge palaver but we landed - were
taken over to the main terminal and a pleasant borders and customs officer went
through all the details (he was more interested in the US customs export
certificate than my immigration green card which the airlines make such a fuss
over. Anyway - We'd flight planned out of Bangor for 16:00 but got off about
15:15. initially climbed to 7000 but as we passed through 5000 and on to 7000 a
nice bit of tail wind turned into a headwind - the wind swung 90 degrees in 2000
ft so we asked for a descent - trouble was that after a while this meant we were
in a sandwich of cloud nearly all the way. Later Monkton told us to climb back
to 7000 and we were still in cloud . Quite an eye opener, keeping the tailwind
made a difference - although we were showing 150 IAS and about 165 TAS this
meant we were actually making 175 and later as much as 190 GS. Not too turbulent
and there was not much high ground to be wary of. what we could see was endless
peat bogs, heather, little lakes and rocky outcrops rather like someone had
taken the highlands of Scotland and steamrollered them to be no higher than 1500
-2000 feet. Very grey and miserable with rain a lot of the way but Goose bay was
windy and clear up to 6000
I am in hotel North now - decorated with charming polar bar photos- there's a
gate at the beginning of town - I'm told its to keep out the bears
Windy - that reminds me - the SR22 has a Xwind limit of about 20 kts - I had 18
at Bangor - and 12 gusting 28 here at Goose - and me only just getting used to
the aeroplane - BTW Bill it was a one wheel greaser you would have been
proud of me
